Wherever you are - on the street, in an office building or shopping mall, driving, waiting for a bus or subway - stay alert and tuned in to your surroundings.
Send the message that you're calm, confident, and know where you're going.
Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes you uneasy, avoid the person or leave.
Know the neighborhoods where you live and work. Check out the locations of police and fire stations, public telephones, hospitals, and restaurants, or stores that are open late.
Never hitchhike! If for any reason you are stranded please contact the Ashland Police Department. We will either take you home ourselves or make other arrangements to get you home safely! There are bad people out there that ride around and look for kids. When you hitchhike you are asking for trouble. You are inviting a bad person to stop and possibly cause harm to you. Please contact the Ashland Police Department and we will see that you get home.
Play it safe and never accept a ride from a stranger.
