This year six numbers for the 2010 Boston Marathon have been dedicated to be used as fundraising numbers by the Ashland Police and Fire departments. In exchange for an official number to run the marathon, each runner has agreed to raise money to support departmental special programs that have been eliminated due to state and local budget cuts. These programs include bringing “Rachel’s Challenge” to Ashland (an antibullying program for school age children), restocking our depleted food pantry, and cooking meals for the elderly to name a few.
Each runner
has a goal of raising $2500 for these programs. Please consider making a
generous donation today, and don’t forget to support our runners on Marathon
Monday, April 19th, 2010. They will be wearing royal blue shirts
with the Ashland Police logo on the front, and their names on the back!
If you want to support a particular runner, please select the "DONATE" link next to the runners name or within the runners bio below.
Thanks again for your support!
Born
and raised in Massachusetts, Glenn is a proud member of the Metro-West community
where he grew up and attended St. Bridget’s School in Framingham as well as
Framingham North High School. Glenn currently reside in Hopkinton with his wife,
Sarah, and their three small children, Tyler (age four), Aaron (age two) and
Kathryn (six months).
Following his graduation from Providence College in the spring of 1983, Glenn
began work with CIGNA Corporation and has remained with this company for the
past 26 years. Glenn has held a variety of positions, including his current role
as a National Account Executive for the health care operation.
A life-long sports enthusiast, Glenn has fulfilled my passion through active
participation as well as through coaching. Glenn was an assistant baseball coach
for several years with the Framingham Post 74 American Legion baseball team as
well as with the Marian High School baseball team, and continues to conduct
basketball clinics each winter on behalf of the Framingham Park and Recreation
Department. With the arrival of his three children, Glenn has turned the bulk of
his coaching attention to the home front where he is witnessing the emergence of
the next generation of athletes in the area!
Upon entering the workforce full-time, Glenn developed an affinity for running
and has used this form of exercise as an effective means to stay in shape and
control stress. The interest has recently intensified as Glenn has found himself
participating in several road races of short and intermediate distances over the
past few years. The competition has fueled his drive to do more.
At 48 years of age, Glenn is looking to fulfill the ultimate challenge of not
only running in and completing the Boston Marathon as an official participant,
but doing so on behalf of the Ashland Police and Fire Departments. Glenn states
"It is an honor to represent individuals that so selflessly serve the community
and, with the support of family and friends, I am inspired and committed to
achieving success."
Chicky was born and raised in Milford, Massachusetts. She has two children, Marlo age 36 and Branden age 35, and also has a 7 month old grandchild named Lucia. Chicky lives with her two rescue Doberman Pinscher dogs named Khayman and Mariah.
Chicky started dancing at 3 years old, ballet to ballroom. Swimming, photography, interior decorating and placing stray animals take up her day. She heads out with her iPod and hits the pavement year round. She listens to the sounds of The Rolling Stones to keep her mentally and physically fit.
Her reason that she first started running stemmed from a challenge from her son when he finished his first Boston Marathon 8 years ago. He said "Ma, I'd be surprised if you could finish a marathon.....!!!!" That was all it took for Chicky to train for and finish her first of many marathons.
As a charity runner, she believes that if you pay it forward and have compassion in your life, it all falls in to place. The Police and Fire departments are men and women who live this rule every day. Running a marathon is hard, it takes sacrifice and heart and guts, and so does the job of these people. She has a friend and neighbor on the Ashland Police force, Officer Tomaso.
Being a 61 year old baby boomer, Chicky is currently recuperating from neck surgery. She appreciates her good health every day. So this year as she hopefully heads down Boylston street for the 6th consecutive time, she'll be as proud as a peacock to represent and carry a bib number from the Ashland Police and Fire departments. Please consider making a generous donation to their cause!

Dave lives in Milford, with his wife Cheryl
and two daughters, Sophia (12) and Lily (7). After moving to Metro-West 13 years
ago he started running the hilly roads shortly after. As far a marathoning goes,
it all started with a bet after a dinner at a friends house…There was a
“Runner’s World” marathon issue on the coffee table and two doubting wives.
About six months and one “Hal Higdon” novice training schedule under the belt,
Dave completed his first marathon running with his friend Scott Kavanagh of
Ashland in the 1999 Boston Marathon. This year will mark Dave’s 11th
consecutive Boston Marathon and 16th marathon overall. Over the years
Dave has raised money for the Judge Baker Children’s Center for at risk
children, The Hopkinton Athletic Association, Boston’s First Night Committee and
has donated time as Treasurer of the National Kidney Foundation. This year Dave
says, “I am happy and motivated to raise money for the many important Ashland
Police and Fire community programs. It is always impressive to see the
participation and support by the Police and Fire Departments leading up to and
during the marathon. Having a brother who is a police office and a cousin who is
a firefighter, I am often reminded of the dedication and selfless contributions
they give every day for our wellbeing.” Thank you for your support and see you
in April!
A graduate of Bentley College in Waltham, Dave works as a Senior Project Manger for Pembroke Real Estate at Seaport Place in South Boston. He trains for the marathon with the Hopkinton Running Club.
