Instructions regarding obtaining a License to Carry or Firearms Identification Card:

RENEWALS

To setup an appointment:

  1. Contact the Ashland Police Department, 1-508-881-1212, press "0" at prompt and find out when Officer Foster or Officer Araujo are scheduled to work next. DO NOT LEAVE A VOICEMAIL.

  2. Call during either of their shifts and ask to speak with them to set up an appointment to complete the application process.

When you come to the appointment:

  1. Have your application completed. (See link below)

  2. Have your $100.00 check or money order with you made out to "The Town of Ashland".

  3. Have your driver's license and old / current FID / LTC.

NEW APPLICANTS

Prior to setting up an appointment:

  1. You must have completed and passed a certified firearms safety course.

  2. For a License to Carry - you must have two letters of reference.

All applications must be dropped off in person to either Officer Foster or Officer Aruajo. Do not leave the applications at the front counter.

Residents should use this form to apply for or renew a LTC or FID.

Use this form to notify the Firearms Record Bureau that your address has changed.

Individuals otherwise disqualified from processing a FID or LTC because of certain misdemeanor conviction(s) may petition the FLRB for review.

 

Application Fees for License to Carry or Firearms Identification Cards

 

Effective immediately, chapter 140, sections 122, 122B, 129B, 131, 131A, 131F and 131H have been amended to change the fee schedule for Massachusetts firearms licenses. The fees collected from the licenses are generally allocated as $50.00 for the Commonwealth, $25.00 for the licensing authority, and $25.00 for the Firearms Fingerprint Identity Verification Trust Fund. Note that there is still no fee for applicants over 70 years of age, and no fee for the renewal of a restricted FID card (for possession of mace or pepper spray). The license fees are now as follows:

  • Dealers License (including Gunsmiths): $100.00

  • License to Sell Ammunition: $100.00

  • Firearms Identification Card: $100.00

  • Firearms Identification Card - Restricted (Chemical Propellant Only): $25.00.
    (No charge for renewal applications for “Restricted” FID Cards)

  • License to Carry Firearms: $100.00 (Includes license to possess machine guns)

  • License to Carry Firearms for Law Enforcement Officials or Local, State, or Federal Government Entities Acting on Their Behalf: $25.00
    (No fee for renewal applications from law enforcement officers applying for a license through his/her employing agency)

  • Permits to Purchase: $100.00

  • Non-Resident and Non-Resident Alien: $100.00

  • Resident Alien: $100.00
