The Ashland Police Department has developed a Traffic Control Unit in order to supplement the full time staff and assist with the need for additional personnel to be available to work road construction details that require traffic direction. The Traffic Control Officers are individuals who are not sworn police officers. They have no police powers and their only duties are that of traffic direction. They are given training that includes CPR / First responder training and Mass Department of Transportation (DOT) Flagger Certification. (16.4.1)

It is the policy of this department to maintain a Traffic Control Unit made up of personnel that are trained, reputable employees and citizens to supplement the traffic direction and control needs of the Town of Ashland.
